RRR Advice and Changemakers Network support NU’s Halal Competency Training for Community Welfare and Better Poultry Standards

Projects Asia3 Dilihat

The program strengthened community knowledge about halal principles, animal welfare, hygiene, and responsible poultry management, contributing to healthier food systems and fairer local economies.

Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) is the largest Islamic organization in Indonesia and one of the biggest in the world, with an estimated 100 million members across the archipelago. Founded in 1926, NU stands for moderate Islam, community service, education, social justice, and economic empowerment. Beyond its religious role, NU is Indonesia’s largest creator of social and economic capital, operating tens of thousands of schools, pesantren, hospitals, cooperatives, community programs, and local economic initiatives. NU’s strength lies in its grassroots network and its commitment to uplifting communities through faith-driven ethics, social welfare, and sustainable economic development.

The initiative reflects the shared vision between NU and RRR Advice: improving community well-being through education, empowerment, and sustainable practices that respect both religious values and humane treatment of animals.

Promoting Ethical and Sustainable Poultry Practices

The training covered essential aspects such as:

  • Halal principles and Islamic ethics
  • Animal welfare and proper poultry handling
  • Hygiene, equipment standards, and safe processing practices
  • Economic development opportunities within the halal ecosystem

Representing RRR Advice Netherlands and Changemakers Network Indonesia, Ustadz Hendry Hidayat guided participants through halal principles and community-focused sustainability, ensuring alignment between religious requirements, humane treatment, and ethical responsibilities.

Participants from across Indonesia gained practical insights into improving poultry well-being, ensuring responsible handling, and meeting both Islamic and health standards.

Strengthening Community Capacity

Chairman of BILAH NU, Ustadz Habibilah, S.Pd., emphasized that responsible poultry practices are part of NU’s commitment to ethical food systems, community health, and economic fairness:

“Support from Changemakers Network B.V. and RRR Advice B.V. motivates us to continue building a halal ecosystem that is ethical, sustainable, and competitive on a global level.”
